Our Company
China Unicom's world headquarters is in Beijing, China with the company also having regional operation centers in North America, Europe and Asia. We employ more than 300,000 people worldwide, have annual revenues in excess of $24 billion and have assets of more than $52 billion. As a publicly traded company, we will disclose material information in a timely manner and in full accordance with the regulatory requirements of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the USA Securities and Exchange Commission.
Our History
China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. (Briefly named"China Unicom") was established on January 6, 2009 on the basis of the former China Unicom and China Netcom, which used to play the important roles on china's telecom market with their own advantages in different professional areas respectively. The former China Unicom was incorporated on July 19, 1994 under the approval of the State Council as a result of a significant move by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to deepen system reform and break the monopoly in the domestic telecom industry. Starting from scratch and going through the decades of struggle, former China Unicom has been constructing a nationwide mobile communications network and a leading-edge unified multi-service network platform, which provide mobile communications services, IP long-distance call service as well as data communications and the Internet services to take the subscribers into a new era of mobile commerce and mobile entertainment. As the only domestic basic telecom operator going public with its core businesses on HKSE, NYSE and the A-share market, the former China Unicom had basically put in place a modern corporate system in compliance with the international practice.

We are also very proud of our record and work performed to support the communities where we do business. In this regard, we were pleased with a survey released last year by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and China's Consumer Association (CAA) concerning the satisfaction index for telecom users in 2007. The users satisfaction indexes of fixed-line telephone and broadband services of China Unicom were ranked number #1 among all carriers. This is the 5th time China Unicom has earned the first place in terms of user satisfaction index. In addition, China Unicom was proud to have been selected as the exclusive fixed-line telecommunications partner in China for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. China Unicom's vast global network covers more than 100 countries with direct connections and partnership agreements in place with more than 85 international carriers. We own capacity in a variety of international cable systems and are a member of the consortium implementing the first trans-pacific cable system, Trans Pacific Express (TPE), to link main land China with the USA. We also operate a network that provides extensive coverage in China and connectivity to over ten countries in the Asia-Pacific area.

| The former China Netcom used to be a Supers-Scale Enterprise in the domestic telecom industry and the official partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games for fixed communications services as well as a renowned telecom operator around the world. China Netcom was listed on HKSE and NYSE. The former China Netcom is centenarian telecom operator. China Netcom owned well-structured, technically advanced and functionally powerful modern communications network with nationwide coverage and global reach. Its key businesses included domestic and international fixed telephony networks and facilities (including Wireless Local Loops); fixed voice, data, image and multimedia communications and information services; system integration service related to communications and information services. |
